new version released (new cover art!)
for a long time I wanted to change the cover art for this game. It is no secret that the previous one was made using generative AI (I was transparent about it and put that disclaimer both in the game description and in the inner credits). But it always felt kinda wrong, even before the "no AI" protests began and everyone in the artistic community started to discover how those models were being trained. I always liked drawing (mostly cartoony or comic-like styles), and I thought it could be cool if I drew the cover art myself.
but... I wanted a Frazzetta-like pulp cover, or something like what Brom painted for OG Dark Sun... And I can't do that. My skills are FAR away from that. Those are the masters, the top of the top for me. Which is why I went with the generative AI solution.
Fast-forward a few months, and I start to realize that gen-AI sucks, and exploits artists everywhere.
So I decide to attempt to do it myself, out of guilt, but also because I always felt that it would be better if it's something made by me (a human--at least for now lol), even if it looks amateurish, or even bad, because at least it has personality. or my personal touch.
And the other problem is that I always drew pencil sketches, or inked stuff, but specifically in black & white. Even on digital mediums. I suck at color theory. I never managed to do something in color that satisfied me enough. But this game always looked like it needed a pulp fantasy cover in my mind, or at least one like those OG Dark Sun supplements from TSR. So I've been practicing different techniques with several drawing apps in my tablet, until a few days ago when I reached a point in which I felt confident enough I could do something decent.
And look, it's not fancy enough as the previous one (if you are curious, you can still see it in the photographs taken from the first print of the game I did, they are in the main page), but it feels more like a fanzine, or an indie comic book, which I always loved. And it's made by a human, which is important nowadays.
Better late than never, right?
Which is why I removed the previous versions of the game, and updated the current one v1.3 both in English and Spanish with the new cover art. I hope you like it. For those who care about the details, I made this piece in two sittings of 2~3 hours each. It was drawn/painted in Autodesk Sketchbook on a Samsung Galaxy S7+ Android Tablet.
